The equipment used in our therapeutic procedures is the LINEAR ACCELERATOR, which produces high energy radiation with great power of penetration in tissues, destroying tumors deeply located in the body. This LINEAR ACCELERATOR, a SIEMENS unit, model 6 700, emits X-rays in the range of 6 million eletrovolts of energy.

All treatments are programmed by a COMPUTER system loaded with a specific software for radiotherapeutic treatments planning, providing great technical accuracy and safety.
In order to improve the quality of treatments, we recently acquired a SIMULATOR,which is an X-ray unit, built specifically to project radiation fields thus contributing to increase the technical standards of our treatment procedures.

Is is also available a COMPUTED X-RAY TOMOGRAPHER, by means of which special studies are conducted as to obtain a more precise visualization of the target-volume and the best positioning of the radiation beams. The use of this equipment facilitates the identification of organs and tissues that must be protected from radiation effects, thus offering better results in the local control of the disease, improving survival as well as reducing the undesirable side effects inherent to all radiotherapeutic treatments.

On the search for the most recent technological developments and abreast with all international advancements related to radiotherapeutic treatments of malignant diseases, we have also acquired all the devices required for STEREOTAXIC RADIOSURGERY, indicated for certain brain affections, where conventional surgery is not feasible due to either the critical location of the lesion or the poor clinical condition of the patient.

Radioterapia Botafogo pioneered the introduction, in our milieu, of the prostate BRACHYTHERAPY using 125-IODINE SEEDS for treating early staged malignant tumors. Results were comparable to those of international centers with larger experience in this field.
Likewise, BRACHYTHERAPY treatments with IODINE-125 SEEDS are performed for brain tumors when dimensions and clinical status are adequate for the use of this therapeutic method.
